FREE 2-DayYouth Peer Support Training Program!

We, Lived Experience & Recovery Network (LERN) are excited to share along our next training opportunities for the FREE Youth Peer Support Certified 2-Day Training Program for those that reside in the districts of Nipissing or Muskoka-Parry Sound. Please note, we will have future training opportunities available in 2024, including virtually (stay tuned!).

May 25 & May 26, for ages 12 – 18 only. Must attend both full days in-person, 9:00am – 5:00pm June 8 & 9, for ages 18 – 24 only. Must attend both full days in-person, 9:00am – 5:00pm

Both trainings will be held at: Homewood Suites, Waterfront Meeting Room, Oak Street, North Bay. -Youth aged 18, can choose which training they would prefer to go into. Further 2024 training opportunities will also be available. *It is mandatory to attend ALL training dates. Registration is required. Spaces are limited. LERN is grateful for this Grow Grant Project we have been gifted from Ontario Trillium Foundation to provide this free training for youth (ages 12 – 24), as well as the opportunity to partner with the Centre for Innovation in Peer Support.

Do you have and/or know someone with lived experience within mental health and substance use, and want to share your support & connection amongst your peers? Please read further on how to join us to become a trained Peer Support Ambassador, in our Youth Peer Support Training program (ages 12 – 24)!

This training program will empower youth to take on leadership roles to by learning an insight into the skills and tools of a youth Peer Support Ambassador within their peer communities, helping themselves and others in their own recovery & wellness. This project will create meaningful engagement for youth within the community.

Did you know that less than 20% of children and youth in Canada receive appropriate treatment for mental illness? (Mental Health Commission of Canada) As suicide is heartbreakingly the second leading cause of death for Canadian youth aged 15 – 24, we must act now, as this is the time for peers to empower peers towards wellness and recovery. Having support is vital for our youth!

The trainers: The lead trainers for this project, are both LERN staff members (Kari Sterling, and Erin Russell), who are both certified Peer Support Core Competencies Trainers and Peer Support Workers.

BENEFITS of this training (testimonials received from those that completed the training): -Learn to connect and engage with those of similar age. -Increase self-awareness -Understand the meaning & importance of Peer Support. -Opportunity to gain further interpersonal skills & external personal skills (increase comfort level, communication skills, awareness into self & others, etc.) -Add this training to your resume! -Connecting over shared experiences can help others (sharing emotions, journeys, similar struggles). -Be able to help others feel less alone -Becoming a Youth Peer Support Ambassador allows for others to feel heard and valued, just by you listening to them. Upon completion of training attendees will receive a certificate of training and various swag items! We will have other 2024 training opportunities available, stay tuned!
