Description

I've got my BSc in Applied Math (minor in Pure Math) and MSc in Geomatics Engineering from University of Calgary, and been a TA @ Devon Academic Resource Centre (1-1 tutoring centre in Schulich's school of Engineering @ UofC). Also I was admitted in 2012 to Master of Mathematics program @ University of Waterloo, in computational math.

In the past seven years, I have tutored a large number of high school students and UofC students on their math and physics, and to boost their marks significantly. The courses I tutor include MATH 20, 30, 31 & 35; PHYS 20, 30 & 35 for high school students, and almost all the math courses ranging from 200 to 500 levels at UofC. My high school students are mainly from the following high schools in Calgary: Western Canada, Sir Winston Churchill, Henry Wise Wood, Ernest Manning, Diefenbaker, Webber Academy, EP Scarlett, St. Mary's etc.

In particular, I have tutored a lot of IB and AP students, both standard levels and high levels. I have successfully helped them not only for their regular course materials, but their Internal Assessments (IA) as well.

My primary goal is to boost my students' marks in math and physics, giving them a solid foundation in both subjects, helping them prepare for more advanced courses in university. Based on my experience, most of times the students struggle with their math and physics is normally because of the following reasons: 1) their approach to math is sometimes wrong, or at least not effective; 2) they thought they have understood their materials but in fact not that well; 3) they have not been trained properly in the past so there's a lack of solid foundation in their math skills.

Therefore, I would first of all make sure that they understand the concept correctly and properly. I endeavour to make the concept easier and more accessible for my students to understand. Each student is different, so it's important to tailor to their specific needs. Also, it's equally important to make the students 'actively learn' than 'passively listen', thus I try to lead them through those concepts by asking them questions that they can realize by themselves. Finally, I emphasize a lot on doing practice, as that's almost the most effective way of improving their math and physics marks -- of course they have to obtain a solid understanding on the materials before anything.

Also I offer both 1-on-1 and 1-on-2 sessions. However, 1-on-2 session is only suitable for the pair of students who attend the same school or the same class.

Rate: $55/ hr (1-on-1) $40/ person/ hr (1-on-2)
